Post Game Jam fixes and additions


Nassi's changes


These have been fixed in bursts since bugs were popping up even after a new build.

I'll be listing all that I've currently fixed these past two days here, but there's a high chance some of you haven't seen these since it was fixed before I wrote this post!

If you do find more bugs, let me know and I'll add it here!


Bug fixes

  • Markings now appear on top of torties
  • White spotting now appear above patterns
  • Misc items now appear above white spotting
  • Head items now appear above body items
  • All references to White has now been properly changed to Mystic
  • Fay will no longer ignore eye color changes if you are a tortie
  • Icons for the first two head pieces now change to match the actual item when you change styles
  • Eyes and fur icons will now change color again
  • Fay has now decided to show his face in the start dialogue
  • The tool tip will no longer stay visible if you happened to hover your mouse over the different style options while the tutorial is happening
  • The pop up menu showing all the items in that category will now actually be hidden when you click hide UI
  • Quit button has been reworked, since all of the useful unity functions are either changed or decrepit, and I couldn't get Javascript code to do what I wanted.
  • Quit button will now function as a last resort, if you cannot figure out a way to exit full-screen mode naturally by pressing esc or back button. It will create a new tab with the game's page, and therefore force exit full-screen mode. There is a message with this information when you click on quit!

New additions

  • More eye colors available, gray and black!
  • A gif playing on the itch.io page
  • A gif playing for the cover image!


It's not a lot, but the bigger additions will come after we have taken a break <3

It requires more art assets, new code, and a rework of the dialogue system... The way the dialogue currently works is pretty janky and prone to bugs.

The background embed gif is also pretty crusty, I'll make a better one later


Known bugs

  • When changing styles while the pop up window is open, the icons shown don't change with the style. It's harmless and does not affect the items on the cat, and goes away when you close and reopen the menu, or use the arrows. Still, it's a bug.
  • Fay's portrait sometimes doesn't change. This will hopefully be fixed when I do the dialogue overhaul.
  • Clicking next arrow on eye color does not progress dialogue, but previous arrow does.
  • When choosing "remove" from the tortie pop up menu, it locks the solid color dialogue as if you were still a tortie.
  • Item pop up menu is generally a bit weird. It seems it doesn't count "remove" as resetting the option back to none. Should be a quick fix!

What's next?

  • A rework of the dialogue so it's more consistent, easier to navigate (code wise), and generally less prone to breaking!
  • Reevaluating which items goes into which theme
  • Unnatural fur and eye colors!
  • More markings! 
  • More clothing items!
  • Which requires me to code in more pages for the pop up menu so we aren't limited to 9 slots
  • New icon for the game
  • Remaking the cover background gif, at least making it less blurry


We have bigger plans, but they are quite large in scope and we don't think we can deliver them in a timely manner currently, so I'll be writing down these short term additions instead so you know what we plan to work on next <3
